This week I started working on a toque for my partner. This time I decided to challenge myself to use a crochet pattern instead of a YouTube video. I looked through the free patterns available on the Lion Brand Yarn website and decided to go with this pattern. I especially like this pattern because it uses words instead of abbreviations. There are lots of free patterns available on this site and you can filter depending on the type of yarn you’re using, the difficulty level, the item you want to make etc. My partner wanted a toque with 2 different colours so I am hoping I’m able to adjust this pattern as I go to incorporate 2 colours. Below I’ve attached a photo of the yarn he picked out.

This pattern starts with a circle and works from the centre outwards. This is quite a bit more challenging than the last toque I made, which required me to crochet a rectangle shape then bunch up one end to create the toque shape. Below I’ve attached a photo of my progress. Currently I am still working on increasing the circle, then once I reach the more simple proportion of the pattern, I will try to switch to the navy blue yarn.

Earlier I mentioned that I like my chosen pattern because it uses words instead of abbreviations. Eventually I would like to become more familiar with the abbreviations used in crocheting. This is a helpful site I found for those who are learning.
